mindofthehero:
the thing is as black women you are doubly oppressed from society for being black and from black men for being women. This is why it can be said, sadly that when it comes to the societal totem pole black women are at the bottom. A grand portion of the oppression from black men can be attributed to living in a patriarchal system; however at the same time let us...

Is It Right Or Okay To Talk About Whitney Houston Maybe Being Gay?
leonineantiheroine:
An article talking about Peter Tatchell’s claim that Whitney Houston was happiest with her girlfriend, Robyn Crawford. Also the writer of the article interviews bisexual activists who speculate about Whitney’s life, and uses Whitney’s death as an example to advocate for bisexual folks—problems...

“Most of all, I am tired of knowing. Knowing that my eyes have been opened, and that what has been seen cannot be unseen. I am tired of knowing it, when I see something that is wrong. I am tired of knowing that only speaking out can change it. I am tired of knowing exactly how hard and scary it can be to do so. I am tired of knowing that if I am not careful, the fight will eat up my hope...

White people: I wear Native American war bonnets and face paint because I have a deep appreciation of Native American culture.
Native Americans: Hey, could you stop doing that? It's harmful to us.
White people: Nah, I respect your culture too much to listen to what you have to say about it.

Thinking of my masi (my mum’s close friend). Even when she was feeling her worst during chemo, she still called to check on me while my parents were in India. Her compassion and strength was (and is) unreal. I was on the phone trying to ask her how she was feeling and she was asking me if I was eating, if i was missing my mum, etc.
Rest in peace and love my dearest masi.

religious post of the day
thesavagesalad:
I’m a Hindu. Not an orthodox one or a good one, but still one. I can’t speak for all Hindus nor can I speak for all religious folk.
I want to talk about some of the more orthodox Hindus I know. They know their ragas back to front and could probably set up a good puja in 10 minutes flat. They cover head to toe when they enter the temple and quite proudly identify as Brahmins.
I...

South Asians on western TV Shows
The Good Wife inspired me to start watching other TV shows with South Asian characters played by South Asian actors. It’s unfair to compare anything to The Good Wife but these shows have seriously been disappointing me! I didn’t realize how many demeaning roles male desi actors have to play! Well, at least Outsourced has been cancelled - we’re making small steps… Anyway,...

I found “Fire” by Deepa Mehta on YouTube if anyone would like to watch it. It’s been cut into 10 different videos.
I feel like I shouldn’t reblog, coz then it’ll get found and deleted… but yeah, if you haven’t already seen this, hurry!!!! lol

“It’s not that Chris Brown is categorically unforgivable. It’s more that he’s no longer an acceptable vehicle for corporations to use to sell products to young adults. On a human level, I’m more than willing to eventually forgive Chris Brown, once he seems genuinely remorseful and changed (which, at this point, he definitely does not). But there’s no obligation to continue...

Stations, by Audre Lorde (Happy Valentine's Day)
Some women love to wait for life for a ring in the June light for a touch of the sun to heal them for another woman’s voice to make them whole to untie their hands put words in their mouths form to the passages sound to their screams for some other sleeper to remember their future their past. Some women wait for their right train in the wrong station in the alleys of morning for the noon to...

racialicious:
“For Asian Americans, there is often a double-bind to media representation. Increased media attention is often met with a personal, stomach-jerking reaction of giddy eagerness (like seeing two Asian American characters in Glee‘s first season) or sheepish embarrassment (American Idol’s William Hung). But that additional representation is often dismissed as being tokening,...
